Competitions are held monthly during the year and there is an End of Year competition
in December. Competitions include both an Open competition and
a Set Subject competition every month (see the Syllabus for Set Subject definitions).
You may submit entries in the following categories:
- Novice Prints (may be any size to a maximum
16“ by 20” including the mount)
- Prints (may be any size to a maximum
16“ by 20” including the mount)
- Transparencies (slides).
The following rules apply to all Club competitions:
Only financial members are eligible to enter.
The ‘Novice Prints’ category is for members new to photography. They cannot have
previously belonged to another club, and they may only remain ‘novices’ up to two
years from the date of the AGM after they join CPS.
Novice members may also enter the Prints category if they wish.
Entries must be submitted to the Competition Secretary at the club meeting prior
to the competition. If this is not possible contact the Competition Secretary to
make alternative arrangements.
You may enter a maximum of four entries in any
section.
Each entry must be identified with a title and your competition number. If you enter
several entries in the same category, they must be identified with a letter after
your number, for example 1A, 1B, etc.
Slides must be spotted (marked with a dot) in the bottom left hand corner of the
mount as you look at the slide.
Prints may be either colour or monochrome, and they may be produced commercially
or by the maker. They should be marked on the back so it is clear which way up the
subject is. The size limit for a print, including the mount, is 16” by 20”.
Mounting for ‘Novice’ prints is optional but is preferred.
Entries must be accompanied by a completed Competition Entry form (copies may be
obtained from the Competition Secretary).
The aggregate award winner will be calculated by adding each member’s top 20 scores
for the year in that category. The winner in each category will be the person with
the highest total.

The monthly July competition is replaced by the Paul Robinson Trophy. Entrant must
bring entries on the night, and the competition will be judged on the night by Paul
Robinson. There will be certificates for the winner in each category (Prints, novice
prints and slides), and a trophy for the top entry regardless of category. Entries
in this competition do not count towards aggregate awards.
This year’s subject is ‘Landscapes / Seascapes / Urban Landscapes’.
Interclub competitions
Interclub competitions between CPS and Southern Suburbs and Foster clubs will be
held during the year. Details will be advised nearer the time
